Christmas tree tribute to Lee Alexander McQueen by Claire O'Connor unveiled at the Design Centre

''I am happy to be associated with the Design Centre's Christmas initiative and pleased to unveil a Christmas tree dedicated to the memory of Lee Alexander McQueen who sadly passed away this year. The tree acknowledges facets of his genius which I hope fuses with my own creativity which as a young designer was influenced by his over the years. Renowned for pattern drafting, the tree has been decorated with miniature patterns. Each of these patterns in turn became a miniature couture gown, paying homage to him as a couturier. Each decoration is placed in a silk garment bag, 1 for each day of Advent. They will be opened daily, revealing a quote from various luminaries of the fashion industry around the world about what Lee Alexander McQueen meant to them. The dresses once revealed will be on sale at the Design Centre, with all proceeds going to Turn the Tide charity.'' - Claire O'Connor
